    ANNOUNCEMENTS

  • FUMC Choir at Westminster

Join our choir at Westminster Presbyterian for Candlemas Service of Choral Evensong and Festive Crêpe Reception, Sunday, February 5 at 6 PM in the Sanctuary. Candlemas, or the Feast of the Presentation of Christ in the Temple, happens at the midpoint of winter. On this day, the Westminster Choir, Choristers, and the Choir of Fairlington United Methodist Church will celebrate the gifts of warmth, love, and light in the midst of the cold of winter. Candlelight will illumine the sanctuary as we sing to honor the Light of the World, Jesus Christ.  Please RSVP online to let them know you’re coming to the crêpe reception by Tuesday, January 31 so they can estimate supplies!

  • Note from FUMC Leadership

Please take a moment to read the quarterly report from the FUMC Leadership Team and a note about our current church finances.

  • 10 Year Reconciling Anniversary!

Mark your calendars for Sunday, February 26, when Fairlington UMC will celebrate its 10th year as a Reconciling Congregation. Our guest preacher is Rev. Dr. Leo Yates, A deacon in the Baltimore-Washington Conference. Following the 11am service, there will be a celebratory luncheon in the Fellowship Hall (no rsvp necessary, just come); Pastor Janine and Mark Elder will share briefly about FUMC's place as a reconciling church in our denomination's future. Wear your rainbow stoles!

  • Submit your Generosity Card

As of now we have received almost $541,344 in generosity commitments. Thanks to all who have responded! However, this is well short of the $675,000 received last year. Please be sure to complete a physical or digital Generosity Card to assist your church leadership in planning for the upcoming year.

  • Food Donations

FUMC is continuing to collect much needed food. As we come out of the pandemic, food needs remain very high, especially among immigrant families in West End Alexandria. ALIVE! is emphasizing specific food items as well as giving by check or online giving. You may drop off items in the narthex – food is collected and delivered to ALIVE! each week. Thank you!

FUMC continues its collection of reusable bags in an effort to assist low income households because the new tax on plastic bags is one more hardship. If you have or can purchase reusable bags with sturdy handles that can safely hold about 20 pounds of groceries, please place them in the big box in the Narthex. There will be a sample bag attached to the box. For more information, contact Anne Wilson, wilsanne@gmail.com.
