Fairlington UM Women

We are women from different backgrounds and professions brought together by a common spiritual

connection and a desire to be in mission with women, children and youth. We work together to serve

our community, develop leadership skills, and promote spiritual growth. All women at FUMC are

welcome to participate and join our monthly events as we seek to be Faith, Hope and Love in Action.

Annual Activities

  • Virtual Activities

Our quarterly Book Discussion Group as well as a weekly Wednesday evening group uses Zoom to stay connected. We also have a private Facebook page and a group email list so members can access current information about our activities. Contact the FUMW Leadership Team.

  • Crafts for Kids

Each month FUMW hosts a craft time and free book distribution for children during ALIVE!’s last Saturday Food Distribution at the Armstrong Recreation Center. Contact Kathy Richards. Paused during pandemic.

  • UMCOR Kits

We coordinate FUMC’s collection of items for UMCOR School and Health Kits during the Virginia Annual Conference in June. Contact Marcy Lewis.

  • Spirtual Grouth

Members receive a monthly email for personal meditations and projects based on the national United Methodist Women’s Program Book. We also attend the annual Alexandria District’s Spiritual Life Retreat and Prayer Breakfast and supplement registration fees for members to attend the Virginia UWM’s Young Women’s Retreat. Contact Karlene Masters.

  • Supporting Local Organizations

Local organizations working with women and children count on FUMW member participation to boost ‘fun’draising activities. Whether it’s the annual walk-a-thon for ALIVE!, creating silent auction items for Just Neighbors and Rising Hope UMC ministries or sewing for Days for Girls, each activity advances UMW missions. Contact the FUMW Leadership Team. Some paused during pandemic.

  • Fund Raising

FUMW financially supports local, national and international organizations working with women, children and youth. Proceeds from your purchases of our bedding plants and flowers, nuts, chocolates and gift tins, White House Historical Society ornaments and the Kingdom Market supplement our personal pledges.
