Frequently Asked Questions

How do I inquire about weddings and/or schedule a date for my wedding?

First please download and read through our Wedding Packet. The packet outlines the simple steps you can take for planning your wedding ceremony, as well as rules, fees, etc... Next, contact the church office. We will answer your questions and check the calendar before you speak to the pastor. You are welcome to come and see our facility during church office hours, M-F 10am - 4pm. Contact us to make an appointment: (703)671-8557.

Do you allow weddings for non-members?

Yes. Those who wish to prepare for a life of married love are welcome.

Do you have weekday weddings?

Yes. We do arrange to have small chapel weddings during the week based upon the schedule of the Pastors. Generally these services do not require music or the services of other staff.

What is the legal requirement for marriage?

Our Pastors are bonded to perform weddings in any jurisdiction within the Commonwealth of Virginia. You are required to have a current Virginia marriage license issued by the Clerk of Courts.

Do I need to make a deposit to confirm my date?

Yes. Your date on the wedding calendar will be initially scheduled as a “tentative date”. Your date is listed as a “scheduled date” after we have received the deposit, the Wedding Information Form and the Policy Agreement Form. We release your tentative date if the deposit and the form are not received within two weeks from the time you scheduled.

May I bring my own minister to perform the ceremony?

Our pastors are responsible for all services at our church. However, in special circumstances, other clergy may be approved to officiate weddings at Fairlington. Contact one of our pastors to coordinate this by calling the church at 703-671-8557.

May I use my own organist?

The Fairlington UMC Director of Music, or someone appointed by her, will be consulted and play for all weddings which require such services. All guest musicians must be approved by the Director of Music.

What are the fees and services provided?

The fees and services are included in the Wedding Information Packet. If you cannot download a copy here, contact the church office at 703.671.8557 or office@fairlingtonumc.org.

I plan to have my own wedding planner. Do I need to have a wedding coordinator from the congregation?

Yes. All weddings are scheduled through our Lead Wedding Coordinator. She will assign a personal coordinator who has been trained for this role in the church. The coordinator serves as a liaison between the Pastor, the church and the wedding party. The coordinator is knowledgeable about the church guidelines and will assist you in making plans that meet the guidelines. She will also be present during both the rehearsal and the wedding to assist you and your family and friends in having a worry-free wedding.

Does the church provide a place for receptions?

The church has a fellowship hall, please speak to the pastor or wedding coordinator.
